Product Questions
What distinguishes True Pawz Natural Pet Treats from other pet treats?
Our natural treats and chews are very carefully sourced and then processed by hand and made with love, high-quality ingredients, and lots of time and care. All products are then taste-tested first and foremost by the True Pawz pack to ensure optimal deliciousness!
Quality and Sourcing
Our products are always free of antibiotics, steroids, added hormones, mRNA, preservatives, fillers, coloring, flavoring, added sugars, salts, and bleach/chemicals.
We choose to source only human grade, wild-caught, pastured, free-range, and humanely raised animals. We support regenerative and local farming and are happy to provide a use for quality, nutrient dense animal parts that would otherwise be discarded.
Chews vs. Treats
Treats are best given as a delicious snack or meal topper. Chews are best for providing mental enrichment and may be longer lasting. Both are sure to provide nothing but nutrition and goodness!
Picky Eater? Here's our top picks!
Our Liver Chips are a hit! A chosen favorite time and time again by cats and dogs alike. They're also easy to break for use as a topper or supplement to a meal.
Made in small batches
Our products are not only processed by hand, but since we strive to find ethical and regenerative sources in an effort to provide the highest quality treats and chews, we have limited access to what we want or need. We are always searching for farms to partner with so that we can provide your pets with healthy product and minimize shortages of our supply--we appreciate your patience with our restocks as we grow.
Pet Safety & Use
What is the recommended chew session time?
Chew sessions for a dog can vary based on their age, size, and chewing habits.
Generally, we recommend pets enjoy their chews in increments of 10-20 minutes up to a few times per day. Puppies may need shorter, more frequent sessions due to their teething needs, while adult dogs might benefit from longer or more varied sessions. Chewing duration can be gradually increased over time.
New to meaty bones, feathers, hair or fur?
Any new treat or chew has the potential to upset your pet’s tummy at first. To help avoid that, start with small amounts or shorter chew sessions. Once you see how your pet handles the bone, feathers, hair, or fur, you can gradually adjust the amount given or length of the chew session accordingly.
Meaty Bones are a great source of calcium and phosphorus amongst many other vitamins & minerals which support bone and overall health. They provide a great way for pets to receive natural dental support and improve the health of teeth and gums.
Given in proper amounts, Fur, Hair, and Feathers are a good source of fiber which helps clean the gut and promotes healthy digestion. They're also a wonderful source of the essential mineral, Manganese, which is important for many bodily functions including the metabolism of nutrients, formation of bones and connective tissues, and immune function.
My pet experienced digestive upset after eating a treat/chew...
We never want you or your pets to have a bad experience with our treats and chews but we understand that not all pets are created the same! There are many factors that could cause an upset tummy and we've explained a few here:
1. New treats too quickly: If this is your pets 1st time with a new protein treat/chew, then incorporating it into their diet slowly is key. When introduced too quickly, likeliness of upset digestion is higher.
2. Vomiting fur/hair/feathers: This can be a sign of too much fur/hair/feathers in a short span of time. Feeding a smaller portion to begin with may help. Other pets may simply just not tolerate any amount of fur/hair/feathers and this is okay too.
3. Monitor for healthy poos: Pets tolerate differing amounts of bone in their diet. While firm stool is healthy, too much bone can cause white chalky/powdery stools or may not break down fully during digestion and may be visible in stool. This can also irritate the colon if it's sudden in which case you may notice some pink/red on the stool. Start with small amounts to see how your pet tolerates the bone and then increase over time if needed.
4. Never had an issue before: If your pet is familiar with the treat/chew that caused some belly upset, consider the following first. Eating too quickly, being active after consuming treats/chews, frozen vs room temperature treats/chews can all effect digestion and your dogs reaction to what they ate.
If none of these apply to your pet please reach out to us to better understand your situation and help.
Is pork safe for my dog?
Yes! Our pig-based products and products containing pork are dehydrated at temperatures of 165 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure potential parasites and bacteria are destroyed.
Packaging & Storage
How long do your treats last?
Our treats and chews generally have 8-12 months of shelf life when properly stored in air-tight packaging or a cool, dry place like your pantry. Products can be kept in the refrigerator or freezer for even longer storage.
Safe Handling and Storage
Keep product stored in original packaging or place in an air tight container in a cool dry place. Keep refrigerated or frozen for long term storage.
Our products are made with minimal processing and are free of preservatives and pesticides. Because they're all-natural, they may contain bacteria that could cause illness if not handled properly. To stay safe, be sure to wash your hands and surfaces after handling, and keep the products out of direct sunlight and moisture to prevent mold. Always keep the packaging sealed until ready to use.
Started a chew but want to save the rest for later?
Be sure chews are not sealed in bags or containers while still wet, as this will trap moisture. Instead, allow the chew to dry in a cool, dark place, and then store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. For longer storage, the freezer is a great way to keep chews fresh.
What's that little packet inside the bag? Is it safe?
That small packet is a food-safe silica gel desiccant packet. This packet absorbs excess moisture and helps keep your pet’s treats fresh.
Desiccant packets can be left in the bag or placed into an air tight container where your treats are stored to help maintain freshness.
While it’s non-toxic, it’s not edible — so please don’t feed it to your pet. (If your pet accidentally ingests this packet, it is non-toxic but may cause adverse effects such as gastric upset-- please monitor your pet closely and contact your veterinarian for further instruction).
